BECAUSE IT IS A MANNED MISSION, THE FACTOR OF SAFETY MUST NECESSARILY BE 100,000 TO 1*
This is more or less what the sick, feckless authorities at NASA wrote about STS (Space Shuttle) safety prior to the destruction of Challenger. It was their way of saying, "Yes, there are cracks in the rocket engine turbines, but the cracks are only one third the length of the turbine blade, so therefore the factor of safety is three."
"Yes, Mrs. Smith, you husbands heart did, in fact, stop while in the emergency room, but it had been beating most of the day so we felt that it was not an issue at this time."
"Yes, Mrs. Brown, the governor did issue a stay of execution, before we pulled the switch, but we returned it to its original position later. You may see your husband as soon as he stops burning."
